[00:15 - Voice off (in english with french subtitles)] The Access Oxygen solution is a global response to make efficient and sustainable access to medical oxygen, including equipments, maintenance, and training. Training is a major component to enable healthcare professionals to feel comfortable administering oxygen therapy.
Even after a live training, it is common for caregivers to still have questions about medical oxygen. To meet this need, the Oxygen Academy platform was set up.
[00:45 - Intervention : Dr Joyce Marshall] Intervenante (à l'écran et voix off) : Doctor Joyce Marshall – Occupational Health Medical Practitioner - Air Liquide. Propos : Air Liquide Global has established an Access Oxygen program with a training platform including modules for nurses in clinics to enable quality care for patients dependent on oxygen for their treatment. The range of modules includes critical safety, good clinical practice, and simulations.
[01:11 - Intervention : Infirmière de la clinique (en anglais, sous-titrée en français)] Propos : After each module, there are quizzes which test our knowledge, as well as practical cases which simulate a scenario where a patient requires oxygen. And we as the nurses go through various scenarios to apply our learnings.
[01:26 - Intervention : Zakiyya Mather] Intervenante (à l'écran et voix off) : Zakiyya Mather – Operations Excellence Manager - VitalAire. Propos : The feedback that we've received from the nurses is that the academy not only refreshes their knowledge on oxygen therapy, but they also learn new skills, such as how to safely connect a pressure regulator or when to use a mask or nasal cannula. The nurses are able to apply their learnings soon after the training, and it has improved the way in which they administer oxygen to patients.
[01:50 - Intervention : Angela Motsusi] Intervenante (à l'écran et voix off) : Angela Motsusi – Primary HealthCare Nurse - Unjani Clinics. Propos : One of the key things that I learned on this platform is how to safely transfer a patient to a hospital, ensuring that the patient's sats, or saturation levels, are read, ensuring that you use the correct cylinder to transfer a patient, as well as ensuring that there is enough oxygen for the patient till they get to the next level or the next point of care, which is the hospital.
I'd encourage my fellow professional nurses to use this platform to learn. As we know in the medical fraternity, there's continuous research that's been done, and you will definitely get pearls of wisdom on this site, and it will definitely improve the quality of the care that you render to your patients.
